Delcy Morelos: origo
Commissioning support
Cheng-Lan Foundation is pleased to support the commissioning of a major new commission by Delcy Morelos' for the Barbican, London.
Colombian artist Delcy Morelos explored our relationship with the earth in a monumental, site-specific installation made of soil, clay and fragrant spices. origo, meaning ‘origin’ in Latin, is inspired by ancestral Andean and Amazonian knowledge. Its multisensory, immersive environments invited us to convene with soil – the material which sustains all life – and to experience its power. This 24-metre-wide commission was Morelos' most ambitious outdoor work to date and her first major presentation in the UK. It marked the return of artwork to the Barbican Sculpture Court for the first time in 10 years.
This public commissioning programme is generously funded by the Cheng-Lan Foundation's Common Ground initiative as part of a multi-year partnership.
